Our Shepherd Hut

Our shepherd hut is currently under construction by local craftsman, Phil Warren at his Popswood workshop in Humshaugh, on Hadrian’s wall. ( Phil has a passion for making things from locally sourced timber but is also fully up to date with electrical matters, insulation, and powerful/ hot showers so we are getting the best mix of tradition with modern comfort! The shepherd hut has a fixed double “den” bed for 2, so it’s essentially a 2-berth unit but there is a small sofa and room for a travel cot if guests wanted to squeeze in some little ones.

It is located in a private spot at the bottom of the site and has a private plot and sitting-out space that isn’t overlooked. Over the stone wall there are commanding views of the landscape, including Hadrian’s Wall! (If you bring a car, we will ask you to park it close by but not adjacent to the hut).

Please note our temporary hut images are stock photos until we get the hut in and dressed and take some photographs!!

Hut Layout

The hut has been designed to be used all year long and the walls and roof have been insulated to modern house standards while the windows are all double glazed. For the cosy nights in, there is a woodburning stove, but if you need instant heat after a day of walking the wall there is electric central heating also.

The hut has several electric plugs. There is a radio and a selection of books to read but we haven’t included a television. You can sit in front of the stove on the sofa but you can also enjoy the fire from your bed (but someone has to put the logs on!)

Our little kitchen has hot and cold water, a small oven and hob and a fridge. We have also included pots and pans, a kettle, crockery and cutlery. There is a fold away table and chairs for dining. Outside we have a fire pit/ barbeque and some camping tables and chairs.

Hidden away behind the kitchen is the little shower room with a flushing toilet, basin and power shower. We have intended the hut to be totally self-sufficient but guests have the advantage of being able to use all of the campsite facilities also, including breakfast rolls from our little café!

What our campers have to say…

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this site. We were on a hard standing touring pitch just by the entrance and what a lovely spot it was with amazing views of the countryside. The owners were lovely and friendly and they have this site immaculate.

The toilets and shower block are spotless and I actually looked forward to going for my shower again on the 2nd night. This site is perfect if you are looking to take a walk along Hadrian’s Wall which we did.

Would definitely recommend this caravan and camp site to anyone looking for a peaceful break.

We stayed here at last minute while passing through, called up at 9.30pm and the lady was so welcoming and helpful allowing a late check in.

We parked up next to the duck pond with some rather cute ducks. The facilities were fab, warm and clean. We can’t wait to return

A relaxed break between Christmas and new year. A gem of a site, after a battle with traffic we arrived at the site. A warm and friendly welcome from the owners soon made us totally relax, very helpful. Easy walk to Hadrians Wall, beautiful scenery.

This site is well worth a visit for the location, facilities and the welcoming new owners. Keep up the good work guys, thank you for all you did

If you like small and peaceful this is a fantastic place to stop. There is a small shop in the reception that sells the essentials. There are clean, hot showers and toilets and a laundry room.

Hadrian’s Wall is walking distance and there are loads of footpaths around the site so you can walk as much or as little as you like. We were lucky enough to spend a couple of evenings with amazing sunsets and beautiful, clear starry skies so it was a brilliant opportunity for a bit of photography.

The staff were really welcoming and helpful and the campsite is dog friendly and well kept

This place is a small and beautifully located campsite operated by the couple that own it. Its obvious from your first enquiry they care about good service. Its not a big fancy place with lots of glamping accommodation which seems to be the trend these days. We loved our pitch which was on one of the upper levels, the sunrise and sunsets were amazing.

Lots of birdsong, wild rabbits and the rescue Pony’s in the field next door not to mention the resident ducks and hens – we loved Tracy’s bacon sandwiches and proper barrister coffee!

We have already booked a return visit!

Stopped of at this excellent campsite on our way to Scotland. Staff could not do enough for us. Very friendly and helpful. Great knowledge of the area, directions to Hadrian’s wall spot on.

We will definitely be back., best facility’s I have ever used , clean , warm and well maintained, thoroughly recommended, you will want to stay longer
