By Train

We have a lovely old and traditional train station in Haltwhistle and the station has a good service across the Tyne valley from the East coast line via Newcastle upon Tyne and the West coast line via Carlisle. You can realistically bring your tent here on the train and be here without a car. We offer a 10% green discount if you do this (and stay for 5 nights)

By Bus

The Arriva bus company operate the 685 and the X85 on the Tyne valley between Newcastle and Carlisle. The nearest stop to our campsite is at Melkridge Green and from there you will have a 25/30 minute walk. Do call us if you are arriving by bus as we may be able to collect you from the bus stop. We offer a 10% green discount if you arrive by bus and stay for 5 nights or more.

The Hadrian’s Wall Country bus, the AD122, operates in the summer (Good Friday – end September) along the Military Rd with stops of interest along Hadrian’s wall. The bus stops at Melkridge Road end which is only 5 minutes from the site

If you get lost feel free to call us on 01434 320495 and we will be happy to guide you in!!

On Foot

From the wall

If you’re walking the wall and are staying with us on your route this is how you get to Hadrian’s Wall Campsite directly from the wall

When you reach Shield on the Wall you will need to turn left if you’re travelling Westbound and right if you’re travelling Eastbound. Follow the path down towards the military road. Cross the small bridge (there is a farm in front of you) and turn left. You will need to turn right at the end of the farm. It can be easy to miss as the path isn’t signposted. Follow the path to the road and it brings you to the military road directly opposite the small road that brings you to our campsite. Follow this road for ¼ mile and you will see the campsite on your left just after the Tilery

Alternatively, at Shield on the Wall, you can take the small road (left if travelling from the East, right if travelling from the West). Follow this road to the Military Road, turn left and walk (with care) along this road until you come to the small road to the campsite on your right

What our campers have to say…

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this site. We were on a hard standing touring pitch just by the entrance and what a lovely spot it was with amazing views of the countryside. The owners were lovely and friendly and they have this site immaculate.

The toilets and shower block are spotless and I actually looked forward to going for my shower again on the 2nd night. This site is perfect if you are looking to take a walk along Hadrian’s Wall which we did.

Would definitely recommend this caravan and camp site to anyone looking for a peaceful break.

We stayed here at last minute while passing through, called up at 9.30pm and the lady was so welcoming and helpful allowing a late check in.

We parked up next to the duck pond with some rather cute ducks. The facilities were fab, warm and clean. We can’t wait to return

A relaxed break between Christmas and new year. A gem of a site, after a battle with traffic we arrived at the site. A warm and friendly welcome from the owners soon made us totally relax, very helpful. Easy walk to Hadrians Wall, beautiful scenery.

This site is well worth a visit for the location, facilities and the welcoming new owners. Keep up the good work guys, thank you for all you did

If you like small and peaceful this is a fantastic place to stop. There is a small shop in the reception that sells the essentials. There are clean, hot showers and toilets and a laundry room.

Hadrian’s Wall is walking distance and there are loads of footpaths around the site so you can walk as much or as little as you like. We were lucky enough to spend a couple of evenings with amazing sunsets and beautiful, clear starry skies so it was a brilliant opportunity for a bit of photography.

The staff were really welcoming and helpful and the campsite is dog friendly and well kept

This place is a small and beautifully located campsite operated by the couple that own it. Its obvious from your first enquiry they care about good service. Its not a big fancy place with lots of glamping accommodation which seems to be the trend these days. We loved our pitch which was on one of the upper levels, the sunrise and sunsets were amazing.

Lots of birdsong, wild rabbits and the rescue Ponies in the field next door not to mention the resident ducks and hens – we loved Tracy’s bacon sandwiches and proper barrister coffee!

We have already booked a return visit!

Stopped of at this excellent campsite on our way to Scotland. Staff could not do enough for us. Very friendly and helpful. Great knowledge of the area, directions to Hadrian’s wall spot on.

We will definitely be back., best facility’s I have ever used , clean , warm and well maintained, thoroughly recommended, you will want to stay longer
